Pavel Dobrusky

Pavel Dobrusky was born, raised and educated in Prague, The Czech Republic (including The National Theatre that produced over 17 Operas, Ballets, Dramas, and Laterna Magica productions each season). In 1983 Mr. Dobrusky defected to Western Europe and in 1984 he moved to the USA. Now based in New York City, he works all over the United States and in Europe.

Mr. Dobrusky mounted Richard III in Gothenburg, Sweden and the International Festival in Bergen; Carmen and Pelleas and Melisande at the National Theatre in Oslo; and The Cherry Orchard at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen. At the Denver Theatre Center, Mr. Dobrusky's credits include conceiving, writing/adapting, directing and designing such projects as Stories (adapted from I. Allende’s works),  The Star Fever, Beethoven 'N' Pierrot, Don Quixote and Fables. Other credits include over 50 productions at such major theatres as McCarter Theatre, L.A.'s Theatre Center, Minneapolis Children's Theatre and Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. Mr. Dobrusky has received numerous awards for his writing, direction and set/light/costume designs.

Mr. Dobrusky was the Cleveland Playhouse scenographer for The Enchanted Maze, Gifts of the Magi, Betrayal and Far Away. At CPH he also served as director and scenographer for Yerma and A Dream Play.
